The official project announced Release 28, Boiorix, in February 2026 and described it as its first release no longer labelled alpha. That is a meaningful correction to older introductions still calling every build an alpha. The announcement also lists platform changes, including dropping Windows 7 and 8.1 support and requiring macOS 10.15 or later. Check the download notes for your actual operating system.
Learn the economy before adding pressure
0 A.D. combines resource gathering, building and military decisions in an ancient setting. Our suggested first session is a small match in which you concentrate on keeping production moving and noticing what stops it. Write down one bottleneck after the game: missing resources, idle units or expanding too quickly. That gives the next session a specific purpose instead of turning every defeat into a general judgement about the game.
Evaluate the mode you intend to play
A free download removes the purchase decision, but it does not remove the need to check hardware, controls and the multiplayer arrangements you intend to use. Begin with the official build and the available learning material. If you plan to play with friends, confirm that everyone uses compatible versions before the session. No frame-rate, balance or network-quality claims are made from this source-based assessment.
