A consistent performance test is more useful than comparing two very different laps. The official tool starts with SuperTuxKart 1.5.
A lap is not a controlled comparison
SuperTuxKart’s performance guide explains that its simple FPS counter has limits: changing driving and short spikes make small comparisons unreliable. If you are evaluating a graphics change, choose a test that repeats the same work. A number that looks high in one quiet moment does not describe the whole driving experience.
Use the version’s built-in test
The documented built-in performance test is available from version 1.5 and uses a replay. The guide places it in Graphics options under Performance test of the current settings. If your installation differs, check its version and matching help instead of assuming the control must be present everywhere.
Change one thing at a time
Our suggested routine records the current graphics and camera settings, runs the test, changes one option and repeats. The guide notes that camera settings can influence results too, so keep those consistent. Compare perceived smoothness alongside the report; do not change several variables and attribute the result to only one.
Leave room for a different session
The project notes that online multiplayer is more CPU-intensive than single-player. A replay result is useful context, not a promise that every network race or community track will behave identically. This guide does not collect device information, run a benchmark for the visitor or guarantee a frame rate.
