Platform names, client requirements and hardware details answer different compatibility questions.

01

Start with the correct edition

Open the official store listing for the edition you intend to buy. Do not use the mobile version’s description to judge a PC release. Our suggested checklist records the operating system, processor, memory, graphics requirements and available storage. If you are unsure what hardware you own, identify that first rather than guessing from the age or price of the computer.

02

Check the game and the store client

An older game listing can mention operating systems that the current store client no longer supports. For example, the official Slay the Spire Steam page contains older game requirements alongside a separate Steam client support note. Read both. A game’s historical minimum specification is not a promise that the complete installation and launch path still works on that old system.

03

A platform label is only the first filter

A Windows, macOS or Linux label narrows the choice, but it does not certify every machine running that system. Graphics capability, processor architecture and specific OS versions still matter. If the listing contains an unclear or contradictory requirement, ask the developer before buying. Avoid treating a screenshot of someone else’s successful launch as proof that your machine will perform the same way.

04

Judge performance separately

Minimum requirements should not be interpreted as a guarantee of your preferred resolution or frame rate. Our recommendation is to look for an official demo when available and test the task or scene you care about. Keep device-specific results separate from general research reviews. App Fieldnotes’ platform filters describe the coverage of an article; they are not an automated hardware compatibility checker.
