Opening or saving a Microsoft Office format is useful, but the recipient’s application still needs a representative check.
Name the recipient’s task
LibreOffice documents opening and saving Microsoft Office formats, including DOCX, XLSX and PPTX. Start by asking what the recipient needs to do: read, edit, calculate or present. A readable preview and an editable working document are different deliverables, and the right format depends on that task.
Use Save As deliberately
The official help describes choosing a format in File — Save As. Our suggested routine keeps your working original and names the delivery copy clearly. Before sending, inspect the actual extension and the format you selected. Changing a filename alone does not perform a format conversion or show that the recipient can open it.
Check a representative part
Our suggested comparison includes a page with a table or image, or spreadsheet cells containing calculations and formatting. For a presentation, inspect a slide with mixed content rather than only the title. Ask the recipient to check the parts important to their task when practical. The purpose is to identify a specific problem before it affects the entire handoff.
Macros need separate attention
LibreOffice’s help warns that macro code is generally not interchangeable between Microsoft Office and LibreOffice, despite some supported cases. Do not enable unfamiliar macros just to make a document appear complete. Use the appropriate official guidance for trusted workflows. This guide does not test a visitor’s files or promise that every feature survives a round trip.
