What it offers
SumatraPDF is a free, open-source Windows application. The developer lists PDF, EPUB, MOBI, comic-book formats, DjVu, XPS, CHM and images. An official portable option is available alongside installation packages. These are documented capabilities; we have not measured opening speed or memory use.
Try a representative document
Our suggested evaluation starts with one ordinary document you already understand. Open it, move between pages, search for a phrase and check whether its text is comfortable to read. Then try a second file with a different layout. A simple page does not tell you whether your usual technical drawings, scanned pages or ebook will be convenient.
Reading and editing are different decisions
Choose your tool around the task. If you need to change a document’s contents, sign a form or collaborate on extensive markup, establish those requirements before making a reader your default. Do not infer an editing feature merely from support for opening a format.
Keep the distribution deliberate
Get the installer or portable package from the official download page. For a managed work computer, follow its software policy. Keep your original documents separate from any experiment and compare the reading experience with your current tool. This assessment does not promise that every PDF feature or file will behave identically.
Go straight to the people who make it.
