Tags rather than streaming
Picard is a cross-platform music tagger built around the MusicBrainz database. It supports multiple audio formats and can use AcoustID fingerprints to help identify recordings. This is an organization tool for music files, not a subscription streaming library. Owning a file and having permission to distribute its audio are separate questions.
Identify a small album first
Our suggested trial uses a copied album you recognize. Compare the proposed artist, release title, track order and edition against what you know before saving changes. A recording may appear on several releases; an apparently plausible title is therefore not enough to decide that every proposed field is right. We have not measured automatic-match accuracy.
Read settings that change files
The official documentation describes options for writing tags, clearing existing metadata and preserving selected tags. It also cautions that disabling tag writing does not necessarily disable moving or renaming files. Decide which changes you want before a bulk operation. A setting that protects one type of information does not automatically protect the entire folder layout.
Stable and pre-release downloads differ
The download page lists stable editions and separately marked pre-release packages. Choose the release and architecture that match your system, then use the corresponding documentation. Keep a separate unchanged copy while learning. Reopen a small saved sample in your usual player to inspect its displayed title and artwork before extending the workflow.
