Time to consider the position
The project describes Wesnoth as a turn-based tactical strategy game with a fantasy setting, including single-player and online or hotseat multiplayer. The pause between turns makes it a different proposition from a real-time battle game. Our assessment is that it may suit someone who wants to think about placement and consequences without constantly issuing commands.
Learn a small set of units
Use the project’s getting-started material before jumping into a long campaign or competitive match. Our suggested approach is to learn what a few units do and how their positions affect the next turn. Treat an early scenario as practice. Downloading additional content is not necessary just to decide whether the core style appeals to you.
Check the edition and session format
Use the project’s own distribution links and choose the build for your operating system. Local hotseat play and an online match are different arrangements, so agree on the intended format with another player first. We have not tested network setup, campaign balance or current hardware performance. The feature description is supported by project documentation; the recommendation is an editorial judgment about whom that style may suit.
