A version headline is only the beginning of an update decision. This dated guide helps you connect Apple’s published release information with your exact device and the apps you rely on.
The September release picture
At our 30 September source check, Apple’s security-release page lists iOS 27.0.1 and iPadOS 27.0.1, plus iOS 26.7.1 and iPadOS 26.7.1, dated 28 September. These follow the major September releases. The supported-device lists differ, so use the entry for your exact device and the update offered in Settings rather than assuming every model follows the same route.
Prepare before installing
Apple’s update instructions recommend making a backup, connecting to power and using Wi-Fi. Open Settings, then General, then Software Update, and follow the options actually displayed. If an update cannot be downloaded or installed, use Apple’s troubleshooting guidance from the same support page. Avoid treating a promotional popup in a browser as a system-update prompt.
Check the apps you need
Our suggested preparation is to list the few apps that would be disruptive to lose access to: work tools, authentication apps and anything holding important local files. Review the developer’s current support notes and confirm you can access your own recovery methods before a major change. This is a planning checklist, not a claim that those apps have a known problem with this release.
After the restart
Inspect the installed version and test your essential tasks before assuming the process is finished. Keep the distinction between an operating-system update and individual App Store updates. This article is dated September 2026; later releases may supersede the versions mentioned here. It is based on official documentation and does not claim hands-on testing of the update.
