This September briefing explains how to inspect your phone’s update status using official information. It does not remotely inspect your device or establish that a particular manufacturer has delivered an update to you.
What the bulletin says
Google’s September 2026 Android bulletin states that a security patch level of 2026-09-05 or later addresses its listed issues. The bulletin has separate 2026-09-01 and 2026-09-05 patch levels. A monthly bulletin describes fixes; it is not proof that your particular phone has received them.
Read the date on your phone
Open Settings and inspect the device’s Android version and security update information; menu names vary by manufacturer. Google’s update guide distinguishes the Android security update from the Google Play system update. Follow the update controls your device provides, complete any requested restart and inspect the displayed information again afterward. An updated app list alone does not establish the operating system’s patch level.
If the update is not offered
Use your manufacturer’s support information for the exact model and region. Update timing can differ across devices. Our suggested approach is to record the model, current software build and security date before contacting support; this makes the question more specific. Do not install a random firmware package or grant remote control to someone claiming they can force an update.
Keep the conclusion narrow
Record the result as a dated check of that device, not a promise that it is free from every vulnerability. If this article is being read after September, consult the current official bulletin as well as your manufacturer. Back up important data before substantial system changes, and follow the update screen’s power and connection instructions.
Go straight to the people who make it.
