A small desktop experience can still deserve a careful look. Our suggested checklist starts with interruption, control and compatibility rather than judging a companion entirely by its character design.

01

The announced theme

Valve lists a desktop-companion event for the scheduled dates above. Its calendar describes experiences that accompany other desktop activity.

02

Start with your working space

Think about where you would place the companion and which tasks it must not interrupt. When inspecting a candidate, look for documented behaviour around window placement, sound, pausing and closing. Consider whether you would still enjoy it on a smaller laptop screen. These are research questions; we have not established that a particular participant offers those controls.

03

Treat it as software, too

Use the developer or official store for requirements and data-practice information. Look for a clear explanation of permissions and any optional account features before installing. On a work-managed computer, follow your organization’s software rules. A cute appearance should not replace your usual installation checks.

04

Keep the first trial simple

If a suitable demo exists, try a short session with ordinary tasks and decide whether the experience adds enjoyment. Do not assume a demo will be offered or that any named title is participating. Recheck dates and individual listings closer to the event; prices and supported systems are not promised here.
