A separate open-source platform game

SuperTux is a 2D side-scrolling platform game centered on running, jumping, enemies and power-ups. The official introduction describes a story mode and community-contributed levels, with an integrated level editor. This is a separate project starring Tux; a familiar genre does not imply an official connection to another platform-game franchise.

02

Choose a stable desktop release

The official download page lists stable Windows, macOS and Linux packages separately from nightly builds. Nightlies are development versions and may be unstable. This article covers the desktop releases; mobile and browser builds have their own distribution and version details. Follow the project’s download page rather than assuming a similarly named store listing is the same edition.

03

Let one level teach the controls

Our suggested first session is to focus on a small set of movements and notice which part of an obstacle causes trouble. Is the jump starting too early, is the landing unclear, or have you missed a route? Return to that question instead of treating each attempt as a verdict on the whole game. Community levels can wait until you know what kind of challenge you enjoy.

04

Version details matter to an existing save

The project’s 0.7.0 announcement describes revised levels, new abilities and local multiplayer. It also cautions that older story saves and beta saves involve compatibility changes. If you already play, read the release’s save guidance before changing versions and keep a separate copy of the files you rely on. We have not tested its controls, multiplayer, accessibility or performance on a physical computer.
