A useful candidate if extensions and cross-device browsing are priorities for you.
- Android extension support
- Tabs, bookmarks, and password sync
- Extension availability differs from desktop
- Website behavior and speed need device testing
What changed recently
Firefox 157 shipped September 29. Mozilla describes a redesigned interface across desktop and mobile, with Compact Mode returning and changes to themes, New Tab, sidebar and tabs. Performance, battery use and site compatibility still require testing.
What it does
Mozilla’s Android browser offers built-in tracking protection, extensions, and synchronization of tabs, bookmarks, and passwords. These are distinct reasons to consider a browser change rather than choosing on appearance alone.
Why it is worth a look
Our editorial view is that customization is Firefox’s clearest attraction. If you depend on a particular extension, check its Android availability first. Then try the websites you actually use before moving your daily browsing.
Before you install
Tracking protection is not a promise of anonymity. We have not compared page-load speed, battery use, or website compatibility on physical phones. Keep those questions separate from the documented feature list.
Move one everyday task first
Choose a task such as reading a saved article, opening a regularly used website or downloading a document. Try that task before changing your default browser. Notice whether text sizing, menus and downloads are comfortable on your phone. A successful homepage load is not enough if the form or document you need later does not work as expected.
Add one extension at a time and read its requested permissions. If a site behaves differently afterward, you have a specific change to investigate. Installing a collection of unfamiliar extensions at once makes the cause much harder to identify.
Keep synchronization deliberate
Mozilla documents synchronization, but moving into a browser is still a separate decision from installing it. Decide which data you want available on another device and use your own account on devices you control. Keep the old browser available until important bookmarks and everyday tasks are accounted for. Our recommendation is strongest for readers who want the customization; it is not a measured claim that changing browsers will make every site faster.
Go straight to the people who make it.
